Poetry Lovers: Miracle on the Table

                                     Miracle on the Table

(January 29,2020)

Bernard Demaere

There I was on the operation table,

Between life and death, unable,

The surgeon who replaced my hip,

Found that mine was super big.

Yes, the X-ray had roughly measured 70 mm

But he found that accurately my socket was 72 mm,

His words, the biggest he found in North America,

Which has its largest usually at 40 mm.

The surgeon had to come up with a solution,

Pretty quick. So, he used six crews, not four, to make

it bigger.  The socket was now in place,

I had lost 20% of my blood that day.  But God!

But God had a better plan as people were,

Praying and their prayers were answered,

By a miracle, through nature and a surgeon’s hands

The miracle is also one of gratitude and awe.

Miracles, the kind that change lives

More than for a warm feeling inside,

Miracles to behold and reflect on,

God’s call to the higher life

Update as of today:  My new hip feels fine and I

walk fine
