The Power of Fathers
Snap Shot Memories: My Father’s Day Poem
By Bernard Demaere
Snap shot memories…
When in the sunrise
You picked me up
And swung me around…
Just because,
You loved to hear me giggle
And shout: “Again, Daddy!”
Until I couldn’t laugh anymore!
Snap shot memories…
When I used to come sit on your lap,
To tell my precious stories
You would tell me yours…
From a book,
And I would fall asleep,
Almost that is…
Just to say: “One more Daddy!”
And at last, I was asleep.
Snap shot memories…
When I hurt myself, and you were there
With your arms open wide,
Ready to hold me tight
And speak words of comfort.
Just long enough,
To hear you say: “I love you, my child!”
I would jump off and go and play again
As if nothing happened…
Sometimes…who knows maybe nothing had happened
Except of course us, being together,
My heart was just saying: “One more Daddy!”
One more hug…one more hug from you!”
Snap shot memories,
Soon, midday shall come and springtime shall bloom,
I will grow wings…and my very own family,
Again those memories, happy memories
Will be recalled and imprinted in the young hearts
In the young happy hearts of those who will call us by name
Mommy…Daddy,
Just because…they will want…
Snap shot memories, happy memories…
Thank you Daddy… for the memories!
